Ashkhabad: A City with a Rich History in Turkmenistan

Ashkhabad (also known as Askhabad) is a city located in the northwestern part of Turkmenistan. It was previously known as Poltoratsk and was renamed after the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic was established in 1925. The city is situated on the left bank of the Tedzen River, which flows into the Caspian Sea.

Ashkhabad has a rich history dating back to ancient times, with archaeological evidence indicating human settlements in the area as far back as the 6th century BC. The city has been ruled by various empires and dynasties throughout its history, including the Persians, Arabs, Mongols, Russians, and Soviets.

Today, Ashkhabad is Turkmenistan's second-largest city after the capital, Ashgabat, and serves as an important transportation hub and center for agriculture and industry. The city is home to several notable landmarks, including the 19th-century mosque of Imam Hajji Muhammad and the ruins of the ancient fortress of Nisa.

Ashkhabad has a population of around 200,000 people and covers an area of approximately 35 square kilometers. The city's climate is characterized by hot summers and mild winters, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 40°C (77°F to 104°F) throughout the year.
