Bersaglieri: The Brave Skirmishers of the Italian Army
BERSAGLIERE, noun [Italian]
A skirmisher; a light infantryman.
In the Italian army, a bersaglieri was a soldier of a special corps of light infantry, which was organized in 1832, and distinguished for its bravery and efficiency. The word is now used to denote any soldier who acts as a skirmisher or advances ahead of the main body of troops to reconnoiter the enemy's position.
