Dyfed is a former county in Wales, which existed from 1974 to 1996. It was formed by the Local Government Act 1972 and consisted of four districts: Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and Powys. In 1996, the county was abolished and replaced by three new counties: Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire.

The name "Dyfed" is derived from the Welsh word for "land of the river Towy", which flows through the county. The county was known for its rich agricultural land, beautiful coastline, and historic castles and monuments.

Dyfed was also home to several notable towns and cities, including Carmarthen, Llanelli, and Aberystwyth. Today, the former county is remembered as a place of great natural beauty and cultural heritage.
