How Caissons Work: Understanding the Process of Building Underwater Structures
Caissons are watertight enclosures used to construct underwater structures such as bridges, tunnels, and dams. They are essentially large, hollow concrete or steel boxes that are sunk into place using compressed air or water. Once in position, the caisson is filled with concrete to form a solid structure. The process of building with caissons is known as caisson construction.
