The Advantages of Gold Plating Over Solid Gold
Gold plate is a thin layer of gold that is deposited onto another metal, usually copper or silver, through an electroplating process. The resulting product has the appearance and durability of solid gold, but at a lower cost. Gold plated items are often used in jewelry, decorative objects, and other applications where a gold finish is desired but the cost of solid gold is prohibitive.
Gold-plate is not the same as gold-filled, which is a different process that involves layering multiple layers of gold onto a base metal. Gold-filled products have a thicker layer of gold and are more durable than gold-plated items.
