Understanding Frigorimeters and Their Importance in Refrigeration Systems
A frigorimeter is an instrument used to measure the cooling capacity of a refrigeration system. It is essentially a device that measures the heat transfer rate between the refrigerant and the surroundings, which allows for the calculation of the cooling capacity of the system.
The frigorimeter consists of a sealed container filled with a known amount of a temperature-sensitive substance, such as water or brine, and a thermometer to measure the temperature of the substance. The substance is cooled by a refrigerant flowing through a coil immersed in the substance. The rate of heat transfer between the refrigerant and the substance is measured, and from this, the cooling capacity of the refrigeration system can be calculated.
