Understanding Generalization: Definition, Examples, and Limitations
Generalization is the process of deriving a general conclusion or principle based on specific examples or instances. It involves making assumptions about a broader population or situation based on limited information. In statistics, generalization refers to the act of extending the results of a study to a larger population beyond the sample used in the study.
For example, if we conduct a survey of 100 people and find that 90% of them support a particular policy, we can generalize this result to assume that a similar percentage of the larger population (e.g. the entire country) supports the policy as well. However, it's important to note that generalization is not always accurate and can be subject to certain limitations and biases.
