Understanding Inferolateral Anatomy: Location and Structure
Inferolateral refers to a location or structure that is located below and to the side of another structure. It is often used in anatomical terms to describe the position of structures within the body.
For example, the inferior lateral aspect of the femur (thigh bone) refers to the lower and outer side of the bone, relative to the knee joint. Similarly, the inferolateral surface of the lung refers to the lower and outer surface of the lung, relative to the heart and major blood vessels.
Inferolateral is a term that is used in contrast to superior (upper) and medial (inner) locations, which are located above and towards the midline of the body, respectively.
