Understanding Kilovar-Hours: A Guide to Energy Consumption Measurement
A kilovar-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy equal to 1,000 watt-hours. It is commonly used to measure the amount of electricity consumed by households and businesses over a given period of time. One kWh is equivalent to 1 megawatt-hour (MWh), which is the unit of energy used to measure the output of large power plants.
For example, if you use 1000 watts of electricity for one hour, you would consume 1 kWh of energy. Similarly, if you use 500 watts of electricity for 2 hours, you would also consume 1 kWh of energy.
The term "kilo" means 1000, so a kilovar-hour is simply 1000 watt-hours. This unit is commonly used in the power industry to measure the amount of energy consumed by customers over a given period of time.
