Understanding Phelonions: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options
Phelonion (plural: phelonia) is a rare, benign tumor that occurs in the skin, particularly on the face, neck, or scalp. It is a type of dermatofibroma, which is a tumor that arises from the cells that produce collagen in the skin.
Phelonions are usually small and flesh-colored or pinkish in color. They may be slightly raised or flat and can have a rough, sandpapery texture. They are usually painless, but they can become irritated or inflamed if they are rubbed or scratched.
The exact cause of phelonions is not known, but they tend to run in families and are more common in people with fair skin. They are usually diagnosed through a physical examination and may be confirmed with a biopsy. Treatment for phelonions is typically not necessary, as they are benign and do not grow or change over time. However, if they become irritated or inflamed, they can be treated with topical creams or ointments.
