Understanding Pneumopericardium: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options

Pneumopericardium is a rare condition where air accumulates between the pericardial sac that surrounds the heart and the heart muscle itself. The pericardial sac is a thin, double-layered membrane that encloses the heart and helps to lubricate its movement. When air enters this space, it can cause inflammation and irritation of the pericardial tissue, leading to symptoms such as chest pain, fever, and difficulty breathing.

Pneumopericardium can occur due to various reasons such as trauma, surgery, or infection. It is more common in children and young adults, but it can also occur in older adults.
