Understanding Taluks in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa

A taluk is an administrative division of a district in the Indian states of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. It is also known as a tehsil or tahsil.

Taluks are subdivided into smaller units called hoblies or villages. Each taluk has its own revenue office, which is responsible for collecting taxes and maintaining land records. The taluk is headed by a tahsildar, who is in charge of the administration of the taluk.

In Karnataka, there are 30 districts, each divided into several taluks. In Maharashtra, there are 36 districts, each divided into several taluks. In Goa, there are 2 districts, each divided into several taluks.
