Understanding Transhipment in International Trade and Transportation
Tranship is a term used in the context of international trade and transportation. It refers to the process of transferring goods or cargo from one mode of transportation to another, typically from a smaller vessel to a larger one or from a ship to a truck or train.
For example, if a container ship arrives at a port with a cargo of goods that need to be transported to an inland destination, the goods may be transhipped to a truck or train for further transportation. This allows for more efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods over long distances, as well as the ability to handle large volumes of cargo.
Transhipment can also refer to the act of transferring ownership or title of goods from one party to another, often as part of the transhipment process. In this sense, transhipment is similar to a consignment arrangement, where the owner of the goods entrusts them to a carrier or intermediary for transportation and delivery to a third party.
