What is a Detainee?
A detainee is a person who has been taken into custody or detained by law enforcement or military authorities, often for questioning or as a suspect in a crime or other offense. Detainees may be held in a variety of settings, including police stations, jails, and immigration detention centers.
In some cases, detainees may be held without charge or trial, particularly if they are suspected of committing a serious crime or if there is a risk that they might flee or harm others if released. In other cases, detainees may be formally charged with a crime and awaiting trial.
The term "detainee" is often used in the context of counter-terrorism and military operations, where individuals may be detained for questioning or as part of an investigation into terrorist activities. However, it can also be used more broadly to refer to anyone who has been taken into custody by law enforcement authorities.
