What is a Vice-Regent?
A vice-regent is a person appointed to act as regent (a ruler or governor) in the absence of the reigning monarch. In other words, a vice-regent is a deputy or substitute ruler who exercises the powers and authority of the monarch when the monarch is not present or unable to perform their duties.
The term "vice-regent" is often used in monarchies where the monarch has granted significant autonomy to a subordinate ruler or governor, but still retains ultimate authority over the territory or domain. In this context, the vice-regent acts as the representative of the monarch and carries out their instructions and policies.
In some cases, a vice-regent may be appointed to govern a specific region or territory within a larger kingdom or empire, while in other cases, they may be appointed to act as regent for the entire kingdom or empire during the absence of the reigning monarch.
