What is Insoluble? Definition, Examples, and Reasons

Insoluble refers to something that cannot be dissolved in a solvent. In other words, it is impossible to mix or blend the substance with another substance to form a homogeneous mixture.

For example, sand is insoluble in water because it does not dissolve in water, even though water can dissolve many other substances like sugar or salt. Similarly, oil is insoluble in water because it does not mix with water and instead forms separate droplets.

Insolubility can be due to various reasons such as the physical and chemical properties of the substance, the solvent used, and the temperature and pressure conditions. Some substances are inherently insoluble, while others may become insoluble under certain conditions.
