What is Monohydric? Definition, Examples, and Properties
Monohydric refers to a compound that contains only one hydroxyl (-OH) group. In other words, it is a molecule that has only one hydroxyl functional group.
For example, ethanol (CH3CH2OH) is a monohydric alcohol because it contains only one hydroxyl group. On the other hand, polyhydric alcohols like glycerol (C3H8O3) or sorbitol (C6H14O6) contain multiple hydroxyl groups and are not considered monohydric.
