What is OHV Engine? - Overhead Valve Configuration Explained
OHV stands for "Overhead Valve". It is a type of engine valve configuration where the valves are located in the cylinder head above the combustion chamber, rather than in the block below the chamber. In an OHV engine, the camshaft is typically located in the cylinder head and operates the valves directly.
In contrast to OHV engines, there are also engines with "Underhead Valves" (UHV) where the valves are located in the block below the combustion chamber, and the camshaft is located in the crankcase.
OHV engines are commonly used in passenger cars and other vehicles, as they offer good performance and fuel efficiency. They are also relatively simple in design and easy to maintain. However, they can be noisier than UHV engines and may have more vibration due to the valves being located above the combustion chamber.
