What is Substantiation?
Substantiation is the process of providing evidence or proof to support a claim or statement. It involves providing concrete and verifiable information to demonstrate the validity of a particular assertion or argument. In other words, substantiation is the act of backing up one's claims with facts, data, or other forms of evidence.
For example, if someone were to make the claim that a certain product is the best on the market, they would need to provide substantiation in the form of customer reviews, test results, or other objective evidence to support their statement. Without such evidence, the claim would be considered unsubstantiated and may not be taken seriously by others.
In legal contexts, substantiation is often used as a term of art to refer to the process of providing evidence that meets the legal standard of proof required for a particular case. For example, in a criminal trial, the prosecution must provide substantiation for their claims by presenting evidence that is admissible in court and sufficient to prove the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
